The Portland Oregon Temple has been one of my favorites for a long time, and I have some fun memories of the temple. My sister was proposed to by her husband on a rainy day outside the temple. On another equally rainy trip to Portland my wife and I finished off our trip by walking the grounds of the Temple and then changed into dry clothes in the Visitors Center so we could drive home.
But one of my favorite memories was from a trip my friends and I took in High School. We went to Portland for a concert, and we were so excited to do a baptismal session at the Portland Temple the morning after before we went home. We all made sure we had our limited use recommends, packed our Sunday clothes, and we even had a change of clothes ready. But when we arrived, the Temple was closed for maintenence for a week starting that day. We couldn't even go onto the grounds! Google was definitely a thing at that point so we couldn't even use that excuse, we just hadn't thought about making sure it was open. We were so sad but spent quite a bit of time trying to get a picture through the gates, and we had a great time nevertheless. I still have never been inside the Portland Temple, but I definitely will make it there one day. And I'll be sure to make sure it will be open that day this time.
