Mangalarati Darshan 08.10.2020
This miserable material world is just like a deep ocean in which all of us are drowning on account of our material misidentification, attachments, insatiable desires and offences. Taking pity on our fallen condition Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga have come to deliver us and take us across this ocean to the realm of eternal transcendental knowledge and bliss. One must simply take shelter of the lotus feet of Sri Guru and Gauranga and follow their instructions. This has been beautifully explained by Srila Lochan das thakur in the following bhajan: ke jābi ke jābi bhāi bhava-sindhu-pāra dhanya kali-yugera caitanya-avatāra Who will go? Who will go, brothers? Who will cross over this ocean of material suffering? This Kali-yuga in which Sri Caitanya-avatara has appeared is blessed. [Caitanya-avatara does not come in every Kali-yuga.] āmāra gaurāńgera ghāṭe adāna-kheyā vaya jada, andha, ātura avadhi pāra haya At the bathing place of my Gauranga, a free ferry-boat is waiting. There is no restriction – everyone is coming, including the lame, blind and distressed. All are climbing aboard to cross over. harināmera naukākhāni śrī guru kāṇḍārī sańkīrtana kheroyāla du’bāhu pasāri Harinama is the boat, Sri Guru is the helmsman and the sankirtana party moving with up-raised arms are the oars! saba jīva haila pāra premera vātāse paḍiyā rahila locana āpanāra doṣe All souls can cross over with the favorable winds of prema. Only Locana dasa is so unfortunate that, due to his own fault, he has been left behind.
Lost..... lost in the whirlpool of material miseries lost in the bottomless well of unquenchable desires lost in the forest fire of this temporary existence lost in the blizzard of misconceptions and misidentifications Have mercy..... have mercy on us Sri Guru, the friend of us fallen souls have mercy Sri Nityananda Prabhu, the deliverer of all jivas have mercy Sri Gaurachandra, the embodiment of munificence have mercy Sri Shyamsundar, the master and Lord of us all
Sri Nama Prabhu, the holy name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, grants the highest form of benediction in the form of pure love of Godhead. The glories of Nama Prabhu are unlimited and are found throughout the vedic literatures. Sri Sachinandan Gaurahari, the most munificent Lord who appeared in this age of Kali to deliver the people from the clutches of Maya, propagated this chanting of the holy names of the Lord with pure love and devotion. However, we often see that people chant for years and yet no substantial progress on the path of Bhakti is observed. This is due to the offenses that one commits while chanting the holy names of the Lord. The great acharyas have warned that the offenses committed at the lotus feet of Sri Nama Prabhu are like a mad elephant which completely destroys the delicate creeper of Krishna Bhakti. One must therefore carefully guard against the 10 offences to the holy names of the Lord, which are the root cause of all inauspiciousness on the path of Bhakti. These 10 grave offences are as follows: 1) To blaspheme the devotees who have dedicated their lives for propagating the holy name of the Lord. 2) To consider the names of demigods like Lord Shiva or Lord Brahma to be equal to or independent of the name of the Lord Vishnu. 3) To disobey the orders of the spiritual master. 4) To blaspheme the vedic scriptures or scriptures in pursuance to the vedic version. 5) To consider the glories of chanting Hare Krishna to be an imagination. 6) To give some interpretations to the holy name of the Lord. 7) To commit sinful activities on the strength of the holy name. 8) To consider the chanting of Hare Krishna as one of the auspicious ritualistic activities which are offered in the Vedas as fruitive activities (Karma kanda). 9) To instruct a faithless person about the glories of the holy name 10) To not have complete faith in the chanting of the holy name and to maintain material attachments, even after understanding so many instructions on this matter. It is also an offense to be inattentive while chanting. Every devotee who claims to be Vaishnava must guard against these offenses in order to quickly achieve the desired success
In this world of temporary existence Where nothing remains for eternity True love is lacking due its nonexistence What then is the use of fake fraternity Each individual is walking a separate path Choose your goal well before setting out In the eternal ocean of bliss you could take bath Or stuck in the desert of Maya, completely dry out Connect with the Supreme being within the one to whom we belong and who belongs to us Being aloof from all propensities to commit sin Absorb your mind and senses in him who is glorious Except all that is favorable and reject all that isn't Giving up association with materialistic mundaners Associate with those in whom Krishna Prem has arisen and in such company, become a pure bhakti practitioner Chant and sing the glories of Sri Shyamsundar Dance and roll on the ground in transcendental ecstasy Serve the Lord of the forests of Vraja, Sri Vipin Purandar And experience unsurpassed transcendental bhakti rasa
The highest goal of spiritual life that a Sadhaka can hope to attain is the service of the lotus feet of the divine couple of Vrindavan. Sri Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and Srimati Radhika is his complete internal energy. Although one, they have appeared as two just to enjoy various transcendental amorous pastimes. Surrounded by their intimate associates, the vraja gopis, Sri Sri Radha Shyamsundar, engage in most wonderous pastimes in the beautiful groves of Vraja. While taking darshan of the Sri Vigraha of the fair and dark complexioned youthful couple, Sri Radha madhav, one can offer the following prayers in their glorification: divyad-vrndaranya-kalpa-drumadhah srimad-ratnagara-simhasana-sthau srimad-radha-srila-govinda-devau presthalibhih sevyamanau smarami In a temple of jewels in Vrndavana, underneath a desire tree, Sri Sri Radha-Govinda, served by Their most confidential associates, sit upon an effulgent throne. I offer my humble obeisances unto Them. kanaka-jalada-gatrau nila-sonabja-netrau mrgamada-rasa-bhalau malati-kunda-malau tarala-taruna-vesau nila-pitambaresau smara nibhrta-nikunje radhika-krishnacandrau Please meditate on Shri Shri Radhika`-Krishnacandra, whose limbs are monsoon clouds and gold, whose eyes are blue and red lotuses, whose foreheads are anointed with sweet musk, who wear garlands of malati and kunda flowers, who have the charming playfulness of youth, and who wear regal blue and yellow garments in a secluded forest grove.
All glories to the daughter of Vrishabhanu Maharaj, all glories to the queen of Vraja, all glories to the dear most sakhi of Shyamsundar, all glories to the swamini of all the gaudiya vaishnavas. Srimati Radhika is the complete energy of Sri Krishna, his swaroop shakti and the embodiment of all transcendental bliss. Her love for Sri Krishna is unsurpassed and her glories have no end. Sachi, the wife of Lord Indra, Laxmi, the goddess of fortune and all other respected goddesses worship Srimati Radhika and hope to attain her favor. It is in her association only that Sri Krishna finds complete satisfaction. When taking darshan of golden complexioned Srimati Radhika, who is madan mohan mohini, the attractor of Madan mohan Sri Krishna, one can offer the following prayers in her glorification: tapta-kāñcana-gaurāńgi rādhe vṛndāvaneśvari vṛṣabhānu-sute devī praṇamāmi hari-priye I offer my respects to Rādhārāṇī, whose bodily complexion is like molten gold and who is the Queen of Vṛndāvana. You are the daughter of King Vṛṣabhānu, and You are very dear to Lord Kṛṣṇa. tavaivasmi tavaivasmi / na jivami tvaya vina iti vijnaya devi tvam / naya mama caranantikam I am Yours! I am Yours! I cannot live without You! O Devi Radhe, please understand this and bring me to Your lotus feet.
Sri Krishna, the primeval Personality of Godhead and the cause of all causes, is the object of the vaishnava's love and devotion. He is the reservoir of all transcendental mellows and the life and soul of all the Vrajavasis. While offering obeisances to Sri Sri Krishna Balaram, one may offer the following prayer in the glorification of Sri Krishna: namo brahmaṇya-devāya go-brāhmaṇa-hitāya ca jagad-dhitāya kṛṣṇāya govindāya namo namaḥ I offer repeated obeisance’s unto Lord Krishna, who is the protector and well-wisher of the cows and the Brahmans. He is also the protector of the entire society. Unto that Lord, who is always satisfying the senses of the cows, I offer my obeisance’s again and again. namah pankaja-nabhaya namah pankaja-maline namah pankaja-netraya namas te pankajanghraye My respectful obeisances are unto You, O Lord, whose abdomen is marked with a depression like a lotus flower, who are always decorated with garlands of lotus flowers, whose glance is as cool as the lotus and whose feet are engraved with lotuses.
All glories to Sri Balaram, the son of Rohini devi and the elder brother of Shyamsundar. Being the source of great joy for all the brajavasis, he is known as Rama and being unsurpassed in strength, he is known as Baladev. He is the very first expansion of Sri Krishna and the source of Sankarshan, the three purusha avatars, and Ananta shesha. The best of Sri Govinda's servants, Sri Balaram, serves him in various ways by becoming his bed, his shoes, his umbrella and so forth. He also serves the Lord in all the various rasas, or devotional mellows. As Balaram himself he serves in sakhya, vatsalya and dasya rasa, and as Ananga manjari, the younger sister of Srimati Radhika, he serves in Madhurya rasa. Indeed without the mercy of Balaram, we cannot hope to attain the lotus feet of Sri Krishna, for Sri Balaram is Adi Guru, the spiritual master of all the vaishnavas. Therefore, the mercy of Baladev is imperative to make progress in Bhakti. When taking darshan of Lord Baladev, one may offer the following prayers in his glorification: namaste halagraha namaste musalayudha namaste revati-kanta namaste bhakta-vatsala Obeisances to You, O holder of the plow. Obeisances to You, O wielder of the mace. Obeisances to You, O darling of Revati. Obeisances to You, O kind benefactor of Your devotees. namas te dharani-dhara namas te balanam srestha pralambare namas te 'stu ehi mam krsna-purvaja Obeisances to You, O upholder of the earth. Obeisances to You, O best of the strong. Obeisances to You, O enemy of Pralamba. Please come to me, older brother of Krsna.
The month of Kartik is glorious and worshipable, for it grants the performer of devotional services 1,000 times the benefit of the service performed. What then can be said about the glories of Sri Purushottam Maas, which, being blessed by the benedictions of Bhagawan, grants one 16 times more benefit than the month of Kartik, meaning that it bestows upon one 16,000 times the benefit of a service performed. Coming once in every three years only, this most pious month is the perfect time to render service unto the Lord, the vaishnavas, cows and the holy dham. Bearing the name of the Lord himself, Purushottam, this month is a reservoir of all auspiciousness and grants all sorts of spiritual and material merits upon the faithful devotees performing services. Although performing seva personally is certainly the best, it is also always most beneficial and oftentimes most convenient to donate one's hard earned Laxmi in the service of the Lord in the temple. Facilitating this, ISKCON Vrindavan is providing everyone with an opportunity to donate for 'Your day in Vrindavan'. By giving Rs.21,000 only, the donor will be blessed with the benefits of having performed Rajabhog Arati of Sri Gaur Nitai, Sri Krishna Balaram and Sri Radha Shyamsundar, Go seva, propagation of Yuga dharma Harinaam Sankirtan by serving the 24 hrs kirtan department, feeding the vrajavasis and serving the vaishnavas. In accordance with proper behavior, when a person goes and visits a respectable personality, one should speak sweet words to please the person. Similarly, when visiting the temple of the Supreme Lord, one should offer prayers in glorification for the pleasure of the Lord. Sri Nityananda Prabhu, the elder brother of Sri Chaitanya Mahapabhu and the very first expansion of the Supreme Lord, is the shelter of all surrendered souls and the most merciful Lord who bestows Krishna prema upon all who take shelter of his divine lotus feet. The verses that one can say in glorification of Lord Nityananda while taking darshan are: nityanandam aham naumi sarvananda-karam param hari-nama-pradam devam avadhuta-shiromanim “I bow down to the Supreme Lord Nityananda Prabhu, who is the awarder of the highest joy to all, the bestower of the holy name and the crest jewel of all paramahamsa mendicants.” nityananda namastubhyam premananda-pradayine kalau kalmasa-nasaya jahnava-pataye namah I offer pranama unto Sri Nityananda Prabhu who bestows the bliss of divine love, who eliminates the filth of the age of Kali, and who is the master of Jahnava-devi.
